Fiberglass Doors

Fiberglass is a lightweight but robust material made of plastic matrix reinforced by fine fibers of glass. Fiberglass is mainly used for insulation. It is common with industrial applications but have you ever thought of fiberglass as a residential application?

In the late 1990s, fiberglass door was developed as an alternative to wooden and steel doors but it a problem occurred after the conception of this invention. Because of Accugrain technology, this invention was made perfect. Accugrain gave the fiberglass a wooden door finish by casting process using multiple dies.

Having fiberglass doors offers handful of advantages over wooden and steel doors. 
  • This material is durable and can withstand changing weather conditions from coldest weather of the arctic region to the warmest weather of the tropical region.
  • Unlike wood that shrinks during warm/hot season or expand during cold/rainy season, and steel which in time can rust, or dent or warp for both materials.
  • Using fiberglass doors can be energy saving since this can be installed with polyurethane foam which offers more energy efficiency. 
    • Aside from the energy efficiency it offers, fiberglass doors also render less maintenance.
  • It is also Eco-friendly because the more houses that use fiberglass, the lesser the use of wooden doors and the lesser the trees to be cut to produce these wooden doors. 
  • Though initial investment of fiberglass doors are of higher value, with great savings it offers in the long run, it pays for itself.

Fiber Glass Basics: The Gel Coat Application

Applying gel coat correctly is of utmost importance to making aesthetically pleasing and long lasting finish products. The objective of gel coat is to create a uniform thickness across the part. As it cures, this thickness is reduced when some of the chemicals evaporate off. Spraying gelcoat onto a mold returns the best quality finish, but it may also be brushed in areas that are difficult to spray. Achieving a uniform thickness is difficult at intersecting corners, deep narrow areas, and difficult-to-reach sections of the mold.

Areas of excessive gel coat thickness can lead to cracking and surface finish problems. While in areas of insufficient gel coat thickness can “alligator” which is a surface flaw requiring extensive repair. Gel coat Application is a tricky part of the process and the manufacturer of the application equipment and the raw material is the best resource for best practices.

Three-Dimensional Goldfish Embedded in Layers of Resin

Would you believe these goldfish are actually painted?
Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori is making waves by painting three-dimensional goldfish using acrylic paint layered over clear resin. His artworks look more like photos of actual fish swimming peacefully in their little tanks.

When struggling with artistic vision 10 years ago, Riusuke Fukahori’s pet goldfish became his inspiration, his passion and lifelong theme. Despite the tedious and complex nature of the artistic process, the end results are highly dynamic, capturing the animated life of the fish.

SEA Expo 2012

PolyKlear Composites together with Swancor and Techni-Ice Philippines, joined the recent SEA Expo at One Esplanade from March 3-4, 2012.

The event was participated by some of the biggest companies in marine industry. The latest in marine technology and transportation were featured, too.

From our side, PolyKlear Composites and Swancor showed how and where high quality fiberglass and resins can be applied to marine industries. Our sales and technical team were ready to answer the questions from our many visitors. From the many applications to the different types, we should how beneficial our products are to the industry.

Our sister product, Techni-Ice, was also present to demonstrate the practicality of the product as opposed to buying wet ice during a fishing trip, boat party, or marine food transport.

Again, we would like to thank the organizers for inviting us at the recently concluded event. We would also like to thank the visitors who dropped by at our booth. We hope to see you in other future events.
