Composites
industry is blooming and almost everything in different industries
have been showered by its lustre; from shipbuilding to aircraft
automobile; from housing fixtures to fashion accessories & more!
It
has also invaded the world of sports from sports shoe to protective
gears to sports accessories and equipments. This material constitute
over 80% of the sports equipments used especially in Olympics. These
paraphernalias are either made by fiberglass or carbon fiber with epoxy
resin.
Various
benefits like being light weight combined with rigidity,
vibration-absorbing capacity and hard wearing, impact resistance,
watertight and low cost are a few of the advantages that amateur,
professional sports and sports enthusiasts desire for when it comes
to their sports buddies.
Take
for example the pole in one of the most interesting Olympic
event, the pole vaulting. In the youngest years of Olympics, pole
vaulting utilized bamboo then aluminum. These materials however
decreases the vaulter's running speed which allows him/her to vault lower plus the energy it wastes as it straightens up which also helps the vaulter to reach their goal. Hence
the turn to composite materials which proved to be lighter than the
aforementioned materials.
The pole of pole vaulting sport is composed of filament wound of fiberglass core wrapped with woven carbon fiber and epoxy resin as the second layer and the outer cover with unidirectional carbon fiber and epoxy resin.

Another
sports that has been invaded by these incredible matter is archery and
tennis whose bow and racquet equipments respectively are embodied with composite
materials like carbon or fiberglass and epoxy resin. These materials
give the gears their rigidity and the ability to absorb vibration as
these sports require during action.
No
matter what the sport is composite has its raid not only in macro
scale industries but also in sports where application of these
matters are unthinkable but with the innovative power of the human
mind has made it possible and the aim to perform at their best.
